Electronic Pressure Regulator Elements

Electronic Pressure Regulator Elements

MORE DETAIL

Electronic Pressure Regulator Valve is also known as electronic air pressure regulator, electronic air regulator, or electronic gas pressure regulator. It is a device that reduces a high pneumatic pressure source to lower, more workable pressure source. The regulator will take the upstream source and adjust it to an electronically pre-set level and maintain that desired output pressure no matter what happens in the incoming pressure, such as fluctuation or pulsation caused by a pump. The accuracy of an electronic pressure regulator valve is determined by the combination of the basic regulator elements designed into the unit. The functional elements of a pressure regulator determine the regulator type and, accuracy, resolution and linear flow features. There are three basic elements in an electronic air pressure regulator.

1.  Loading Mechanism Of An Electronic Air Regulator

The first functional element of an electronic air regulator is the loading mechanism. It provides users with the ability to set the force that determines the outlet pressure of the electronic air regulator. It is the first part of any pressure regulator. In genereal, there are four different types of loading mechanisms; spring load, dome load, air load, and spring/dome combinations. Each type comes with their own advantages and disadvantages depending on the application for which they are used.

2.  Sensing Element Of An Electronic Gas Pressure Regulator

The sensing element is provides the source of feedback to the central PLC of an electronic gas pressure regulator. It is responsible for sensing any changes in the output pressure of the regulator and informs the PLC to act accordingly to maintain the set value. Sensors are placed in a closed cavity within the electronic pressure regulator valve. As the gas passes by, the sensor will detect fluctuations in pressure and adjust. It is a link between the loading element and the control element. There are three different kinds of sensing elements: diaphragm, piston, and bellows. The diaphragm is typically the most cost-effective and adequate for most applications because it is simplistic in design and sensitive enough for smaller applications.

3. Control Element Of An Electronic Air Pressure Regulator

The final element of an electronic air pressure regulator is the control element. The control element is responsible for doing the actual work. It is responsible for adjusting the regulator’s action to reach the desired outlet pressure. The information is sent from the sensing element, so the control knows what to do to maintain the flow. These three elements follow the classic philosophical logic: commanding one person to go to the grocery store ( loading/ command), one felt the rain water on the way to the grocery (sensing), one return home and pick up umbrella and depart again (control element). Eventually the person will be arriving at the grocery store (set value).
